150 Holborn – Sidara

Delivering a secure, scalable, and flexible network infrastructure to enable one of the smartest buildings in Europe.

150 Holborn was designed as a London headquarters building for Sidara, a global design, engineering and consulting group that delivers some of the world’s biggest and most complex design and engineering projects.

The vision was for a building of the future that would showcase the technical capabilities of Sidara’s member companies and push the boundaries of what a Smart Building can deliver.

The overall goal was to create a collaborative space offering an inspirational user experience, with staff wellbeing and sustainability as critical success factors.

The Challenge

As an owner occupier with Smart Building expertise, Sidara had the highest ambitions from day one. The challenge for Ideal was delivering a network environment that technically supported their vision.

The building needed to be highly adaptable, functioning as a ‘Living Lab’ capable of collecting and analysing data and automating activities to optimise operations, energy efficiency and sustainability.

Another key requirement was to maintain an open environment where member companies could collaborate without physical boundaries, while ensuring secure IT boundaries for each separate entity.

The Solution

Working in a consultative approach with Sidara, Ideal designed the Shell and Core and the Fit-Out network concurrently, which enabled full integration of operational and occupational functionality.

To ensure a Smart Building delivers to the maximum effect, it’s important to connect as many services as possible via the CNS. At 150 that includes:

Wi-Fi
Audio visual and meeting room management
Mobile regeneration
BMS (building management systems)
HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning)
Access control
CCTV
Energy Management Systems

The CNS is predominantly based on Cisco technology, including Cyber Security, Switches, WLCs, WAPs, Servers, ISE and WAN aggregation.

Each Sidara company has their own network, their own Firewalls, that uses the CNS for internet
The CNS’ Wi-Fi broadcasts for each Sidara company, into their network, using their authentication
Segregated Wi-Fi deployment, essential to the member company experience, was also delivered
Each company accesses common printers

The Result
